As she starts with talking about the terrain her family previously lived in while her mother cursed her forefathers who chose an unsteady terrain to live in you steadily start to think why was this a case and one reason a person can think of is because the upper class neglected and barred them from living with and possibly even near them which forced them to choose a route where you fight for your life every day in order to earn bread for your family. “Often while crossing boulders it would drip out, wetting her blouse” this shows that they never got a maternity leave while the upper class was always maintained and taken utmost care of, such was not the case here. While talking about the the drudgery of their daily lives, Urmila Pawar discusses the bond the women formed on the way, the markets were a place to decide the partners for their children or themselves, the support the women had for  each other. “Let me tell you, a Kulwadi woman I knew kept a dead snake in her sari for eight days—completely rotten! And see how they show off as if we pollute them!” this clearly shows that untouchability though wiped out from the Indian Constitution didn’t wipe out from the minds of the people. An ironical incident which really hits hard is when Vimal , ashamed of her sister-in-law called her their maidservant and when she got to know about it, she confronted him with rather a vulnerability rather than anger. This was the exact state of the Dalit community before the upper caste.

Contested Citizenship, Caste, and the Politics of Chandrashekhar Azad ‘Ravan’             The CAA-NRC agitations have perhaps reached a tipping point in mainland India. Yet, the contention and agitation has been brewing in Assam for a while now. Until the threat of a nation-wide NRC, it wasn’t even a peripheral topic of discussion. ‘We people’ were largely unfazed by it. However, a brief reading of the recommended articles and a short explanatory video with Ms. Bina Pallical reaffirms my continuous contention with the NRC. Even the ‘Liberals’ comprising mainly of upper-caste educated persons have bought the narrative of it being an exclusively Hindu-Muslim problem. Week 10 - Samyuktha Rao

I'm sharing something interesting that I've come across during my search for dalit music. In the state of telangana, India's largest tribal festival is conducted on an annual basis in the month of February. The festival witnesses largest gathering of dalit communities as the goddess who is worshipped during the festival belongs to the Koya tribe. However, Hinduization of this festival has begun to take place in the last few decades. I'm attaching articles from the wire and feminism in india which talks in detail about how upper castes are controlling the image of the goddess as theirs and their other  other practices of Hinduization that are taking place during the festival.
