Effects of CAA and NRC on the minorities of India

General public view of the CAA and NRC clubbed together is that it is anti-muslim and that’s all. As much as it stands true it is not the complete truth. The NRC and CAA clubbed together are not just anti-muslim but anti minority in its essence. While the problem with CAA is very clear, that is leaves out muslims to attain citizenship in India and blatantly denies that muslims can be persecuted in Islamic states. The problem with NRC is even more complex and thus gives the present regime an opportunity to dismiss the claims of the people of India as mere paranoia and hysteria.

The present regimes till now has not confirmed what will be the documents required in the process of NRC for a Indian citizen to prove their citizenship again but a lot of emphasis is being laid down on property documents. Documents that can prove you to be a citizenship through lineage. This approach in itself is very classist. The problem is that the major chunk of the Indian population does not own land therefore they will fail to prove their citizenship. Now who are these people who do not own land? The ones who are already marginalized who belong to SC, ST and OBC communities and do not have any resources.

This false narratives needs to be done away with it as it only works in the favour of those who want to delegitimize the claims of the protestors. The present regime wants this polarization. They want everyone to believe that it is only the muslims who are not happy with the law and are disturbing the law and order situation not only in Delhi but all around India. This government is of the rich who label anyone who apposes their dream of Hindu rashtra as an anti national. This Hindu-fication of the country is not only against the constitution but also against the people of India be it a muslim, a dalit, a sikh, a bhuddhist or a non conforming hindu for that matter.

Contested Citizenship, Caste, and the Politics of Chandrashekhar Azad ‘Ravan’             The CAA-NRC agitations have perhaps reached a tipping point in mainland India. Yet, the contention and agitation has been brewing in Assam for a while now. Week 10 - Samyuktha Rao

I'm sharing something interesting that I've come across during my search for dalit music. In the state of telangana, India's largest tribal festival is conducted on an annual basis in the month of February. The festival witnesses largest gathering of dalit communities as the goddess who is worshipped during the festival belongs to the Koya tribe. However, Hinduization of this festival has begun to take place in the last few decades. I'm attaching articles from the wire and feminism in india which talks in detail about how upper castes are controlling the image of the goddess as theirs and their other  other practices of Hinduization that are taking place during the festival.
